ROUND DIAMOND PRICE DROP OPPORTUNITY & ANALYSIS

Our Diamond Inventory Search Engine will guide you through our most complete and compelling inventory in every cut, clarity, color and carat weight!

%Jeweler NYC %NYC Wholesale Diamonds

Every indication was that diamonds, currently priced as the most undervalued commodity in decades, would appreciate significantly throughout 2015. While gold, platinum and silver have more than quadrupled in price, diamonds remained very close to the same price levels as at the beginning of this decade.

Here at NYC Wholesale Diamonds we have been expecting significant increases in round diamond prices this year, and for many years to come. This opinion has been shared for many reasons by leading Wall Street analysts, and continues to be the mainstream consensus of diamond industry leaders. The reality is that in the short term the opposite has happened, as round diamond prices have now dropped twice this year. This creates a rare buying opportunity to take advantage of due to this short term blip on an upward diamond price trend that will most definitely continue going forward.

The three key factors that have contributed to this price drop all appear to be short term in nature. Let’s review them beginning with the demand and supply curve. Diamond inventory levels became much higher than anticipated due to the industry overestimating the demand for exchange traded diamond funds. These funds that were introduced earlier this year need to physically purchase round diamonds as fund shares are purchased, removing them from the supply side.

Secondly, the diamond industry has been hit by a lending drought after KBC Groep NV said it’s winding down its Antwerp Diamond Bank unit, a source of finance for 80 years to the network of companies that trade, cut and polish diamonds in the Belgian port city. Other lenders, including ABN Amro Bank NV, have cut the proportion of gem purchases they were willing to finance due to pricing concerns. Any time banks tighten credit to the industry, it forces traders, cutters and polishers to sell more inventory as well.

Last but far from least is the slowing of demand from the two strongest emerging economies, China and India. Government restrictions on imports have been the culprit here.

“The biggest thing really is the tightening liquidity,” said Ed Sterck, an analyst at Bank of Montreal. “If you’re a cutter or polisher of rough diamonds whose available liquidity is being reduced you’ve got to adjust your inventory. Selling inventory to increase cash has the knock on effect of increasing the supply of polished diamonds.”

As the economy recovers, diamond and jewelry demand will grow rapidly. There has already been a 3 percent growth in global demand for diamond jewelry in 2014 to $81 billion.. De Beers is also committing billions of dollars over the coming years to a number of projects.

Opportunity is knocking for those who have been waiting to purchase a diamond for their very special love. Those seeking an investment alternative to 1% interest rates, and an uncertain toppy stock market are emerging as well. Here at NYC Wholesale Diamonds we are committed to finding you the best quality and value GIA certified ideal cut diamonds. THE CASE FOR PLATINUM WEDDING BANDS

%Jeweler NYC %NYC Wholesale Diamonds

Here at NYC Wholesale Diamonds we are thrilled to help our happily engaged couples with our magnificent selection of quality wedding bands. The debate between platinum and white gold is complex, and really depends on many variables. The following is the case for why men should choose Platinum Wedding Bands.

Congratulations to all you soon-to-be grooms. Now that your wedding is only months away, your jewelry collection – just a watch, huh? – is about to increase by as much as 50 percent.

Meaning, it’s time to start thinking about what kind of wedding band you want for yourself.

Wedding bands have become the norm for men in recent years

– 97 percent of grooms in The Knot Market Intelligence’s “2011 Engagement & Jewelry Study” opted for one – so even if you have any doubts, your bride will probably set you straight. That means your only real decision is what kind of band best suits you.

To hear CNNMoney.com tell it, there are basically two camps: those who “don’t want to compromise” when it comes to quality (platinum bands), and those who feel they cannot afford the best and therefore need to settle (bands made from alternative metals). But, as jewelry expert Michael O’Connor points out, that doesn’t really give the whole picture.

“It’s true that platinum is so rare – 30 times more so than gold – that if all the world’s supply were melted and poured into an Olympic-size pool, it would barely reach your ankles,” O’Connor says. “But men’s platinum bands start at $500.”

That turns out to be pretty comparable to the cost of the two most popular alternative metals: titanium and tungsten carbide. Both are perhaps best known for being used to make fighter jets. Cool, right? Well, yes, but that also means they’re intrinsically lightweight and lack the heft of platinum.

“Most men prefer something that feels masculine on their finger,” says O’Connor.

There are other facts to consider, too. Tungsten and titanium jewelry will need special reconditioning if scratched, and cannot be resized. Even the more popular white gold will require rhodium replating to restore its white color due to wear over time. And while platinum – as all precious metals – can scratch, the metal is simply displaced on the surface of the ring, meaning very little metal is lost in wear. That makes it the most durable family heirloom that will last generations.

Still confused? Then ask yourself this question: How committed are you to your future wife?

If the answer’s what we think, then know that platinum has traditionally symbolized a relationship that will endure since it doesn’t fade or change color. “That’s the kicker for a lot of couples,” says O’Connor.

The psychology of choice in engagement rings and wedding bands

%Jeweler NYC %NYC Wholesale Diamonds

In NYC Diamond Blog’s coverage of Hollywood, and the opinions of published dating experts nationwide comes this article in today’s Huff Post by Damona Hoffman. It is interesting, amusing, and worth a quick look.

Halle Berry has tied the knot again. We’re hoping that the third time is a charm for this soon-to-be mom of two. Will her marriage to Olivier Martinez be able to stand the test of time? Since my crystal ball is in the shop, I thought I’d investigate some other predictors of relationship success. Did you know that your wedding ring can actually indicate the kind of relationship you have?

I asked Simon Katz from a large jewelry website, who actually studied psychology and sociology before getting into the jewelry business, to help me analyze Halle’s engagement ring to see what her choice of ring says about their relationship future.

“Halle has had troubled relationships in her past. By choosing an actual Emerald in an Emerald Cut, she’s basically declaring, ‘I’m not going to go down the same path I’ve already been. I’ve learned my lessons, and I’m carving out a new road,’” Katz told me. “A three-stone ring setting is definitely glamorous and allows the wearer to let her unique personality shine through with different combinations of diamonds and gemstones.”

I remember the months leading up to my own engagement vividly. I was so eager to finally get that stone after three years of dating that I didn’t care what it looked like. Now that I’m aware of the various meanings behind the setting, cut, and shape, I am encouraging my successful dating coaching clients to be a little more discerning.

Katz says, “The selection of an engagement ring should be a thoughtful process so it ends up matching the personality of the wearer. The kind of engagement ring one finally chooses can also tell a lot about the present and future relationship.”

So what does your choice of ring really say about you?

The Cut And Shape Of The Stone

Classic round: The future bride and groom are likely to be traditional, perhaps a bit conservative, faithful to each other, and very loyal.

Emerald cut: More often than not, money is no object when it comes to showering each other with affection.

Princess cut: The bride-to-be will most likely be a pampered spouse, with the future groom being a dedicated, thoughtful husband.

Pear shaped: The engaged couple can be quite independent and have high standards, but ultimately supportive of each other.

Marquise cut: The engagement and marriage are punctuated with chic and glamorous events, calling for many opportunities to play dress-up.

Heart shaped: The future bride and groom are not afraid to indulge in public displays of affection now and then. They are also most likely to be giddy at their own wedding!

Oval shaped: Stability and serenity are important to the couple who choose this shape.

The Shape and Design of the Band

Traditional band: With no discernible ending and beginning, a perfectly round engagement ring tells of a future life together which the couple cannot wait to begin right away.

Split shank: This style splits the band in half near the center diamond, indicating that despite having different personalities, the people in the relationship are always one in heart, mind, and spirit.

Solitaire: As classic as they come, the solitaire speaks of a simple life together with basic values holding up the relationship as time goes by.
Three-stone setting: Symbolizing the couple’s past, present, and future, this setting serves as a precious timeline of a relationship.

Stackable rings: Flush-style engagement rings and wedding bands fit harmoniously so they form one smooth, streamlined shape when worn together. This indicates that the engaged couple is thoughtful, are careful planners, and are forward-thinking.

Engraved band: A sentimental and unique couple with plenty of private jokes and shared interests will likely choose an engagement ring engraved with symbols that mean something special to the two of them.

Just like relationships, each ring has it’s own unique identity so when you walk down the aisle, make sure you pick a ring that mirrors the love you feel for one another.

Aquamarine, the March Birthstone

%Jeweler NYC %NYC Wholesale Diamonds

Aquamarine is a blue to green-blue variety of precious beryl. The beryl group of minerals is most famous for chromium-rich, green emerald, which happens to be one of the ‘Precious Four’ gems of the world (diamond, sapphire and ruby are the remaining three). Aquamarine is the official birthstone for those born in March. Aquamarine is exceptionally hard and has an outstanding glass-like luster. It is most famous for its breathtaking sea-blue colors which can range from light blue to dark blue. The name ‘Aquamarine’ was derived from an old Latin expression which meant ‘seawater’.

NYC Wholesale Diamonds offers a magnificent collection of Aquamarine and Diamond Rings, Tennis Bracelets, Necklaces, and Earrings. We caution you to always request a certified appraisal when purchasing Aquamarine Jewelry. The more common Blue Topaz can be quite similar in appearance and is not a rare gemstone.

Aquamarine and emerald belong to the same family, but they are surprisingly different. Aquamarine and emerald are both beryllium aluminum silicates. While emerald is colored by trace amounts of chromium (and vanadium), Aquamarine color is the result of iron impurities within colorless beryl crystal. Aquamarine and emerald have essentially the same specific gravity and refractive index, but emerald tends to be hazy and full of inclusions, while Aquamarine has excellent transparency and clarity. Aquamarine, and other types of beryl, are quite durable and hard, ranging from 7.5 to 8 on Mohs scale of mineral hardness. A dark and deeply-saturated blue is the most desirable and valuable Aquamarine color

Antwerp, NYCWD’s Source for our Diamonds

%Jeweler NYC %NYC Wholesale Diamonds

Antwerp, Belgium’s Diamond District, also known as the ‘Diamond Quarter’ (Diamantkwartier), is the diamond capital of the world. Approximately one square mile in the four block district consists of diamond cutting workshops, diamond dealers, merchants and brokers. 80% of the world’s rough diamonds, 50% of the cut diamonds and 45% of industrial diamonds pass through the district.

An ancient city and the third largest port in the world, Antwerp has been a diamond capital since the 16th century. Today, more than 30,000 people are employed in the diamond industry. This makes it the largest diamond center in the world with a turnover of over 54 billion dollars. At least $16 billion in polished diamonds pass through the district’s exchanges each year. There are 380 workshops that serve 1,500 companies. There are also 3,500 brokers, merchants & diamond cutters.

NYC Wholesale Diamonds proudly imports all of our diamonds directly from the Antwerp auctions, bypassing all middlemen and brokers. Best Jewelry Oscars 2015: Statement Necklaces, Bold Earrings, Diamonds and Gems Sparkle

%Jeweler NYC %NYC Wholesale Diamonds

This had to be one of the best years for jewelry ever on the Oscars Red Carpet. Bold earrings and sparking ear cuffs turned out to be just the opening act for the big bold statement necklaces that followed.

Early on it appeared that Margot Robbie was going to be the highlight of the jewelry show wearing a Van Cleef & Arpels “Zip Antique Colombine” emerald necklace featuring diamonds and sapphires set in 18k yellow gold. The zipper is fully functional.

But it turned out that Robbie was going to be joined by a parade of others wearing a variety of statement necklaces.

Scarlett Johansson pretty much stunned everyone and also caused me (as well as others I’m sure) some embarrassment with a large bib necklace that I thought was emerald but is now being reported at numerous places as a Swarovski crystal embroidered collar. Precious or not it was one the big statement pieces on the red carpet.  She matched the necklace with Piaget Mediterranean Garden ear cuff set in 18k pink gold with five pear-shaped emeralds, 278 brilliant-cut diamonds, four pear-shaped aquamarines and two pear-shaped green tourmalines.

Lupita Nyong’o may have out-done everybody with a white Calvin Klein gown adorned with approximately 6,000 white pearls, which were reportedly a mix of fake and real.

Anna Kendrick wore a diamond collar of five rows matched with marquis and pear-shaped diamond cluster earrings totaling 13 carats, reportedly by Norman Silverman. The necklace was tucked into the neckline of her gown.

Cate Blanchett went with a multi-row turquoise necklace by Tiffany & Co.
