NYCWD Couple Proposal in Central Park

With 30 years of experience, Keith J. Saxe and his NYC Wholesale Diamonds office knows a thing or two about how to create a successful and memorable proposal.  For many years, people have come through our door and walked out with more than just a beautiful custom GIA certified ideal cut diamond engagement ring at the lowest wholesale price.  Here are some of our best proposal recommendations, gathered throughout the years, that you might find helpful.

While it’s always great to have input from your future fiancé’s friends and family, we always encourage our clients to never show the finished ring to anyone before the magic moment.  Proposal day is one of the most special days in one’s life, and your future fiancé has been waiting her entire life to share her happiness by showing her beautiful ring to those closest to her.  To see the amazement and happiness in their eyes at the magical first glance, is something she will always remember! Let her have her ‘forever moment’ and relish in everyone’s ohh’s and ahh’s.

Some of the most romantic and thoughtful proposals are planned for special trips, what we call the ‘Destination Proposal”.  Whether it’s a beach getaway or visiting family during the holidays, if your special proposal involves an airport, be careful where you pack the ring.  You would never want to pack a ring of such value in any checked luggage.  Traveling with the ring in your pocket is the natural reaction, but you risk blowing the surprise when you empty your pockets at security.  The best place is to pack the ring in a carry-on.  Try not to pack anything else in the carry-on that might trigger security to want to search your bag, but worse-case scenario, if they want to open up your carry on, ask for a private room.

As to the actual proposal, always try to incorporate one special detail.  Maybe it’s where you had your first date, the place you met, or even just a beautiful view or sunset.  Everyone is going to ask “How did he/she ask?” and that one little detail can make for one swoon-worthy story!

“It is an honor to play our small part in your happiness”

It’s a phrase we use a lot around the NYCWD office, but we take that role seriously, and we mean it!  We treat every client who walks though our door like family.

Check out our latest 5 Star Review on Google from Charles in Raleigh, NC, who found himself in a bind just a few days before the big planned proposal.

“Keith was an incredible partner throughout my diamond-buying process, as he was knowledgeable, experienced, attentive, and incredibly responsive. A friend and professional colleague referred me to Keith, and it turned out to be an outstanding reference. The ring is flawless, and the process was smooth.

As an example of his excellent customer service, a few days before proposing (after I received the stunning ring), I discovered that the ring size was wrong and needed to be adjusted upward. I told Keith, and he insisted on addressing the problem ASAP (even staying late on the Friday before the July 4th weekend). Keith returned the ring to me with time to spare. It was an extraordinary example of customer service. I’ll never forget it.”

There’s no better way to demonstrate your love than by giving a ruby and diamond piece if jewelry in celebration of a July birthday.  It is also the gem for the 15th and 40th Anniversary.  Red is the color of our most intense emotions—love and anger, passion and fury. It’s associated with objects of power and desire—like fast cars and red roses. Early cultures treasured rubies for their similarity to the redness of the blood that flowed through their veins, and believed that rubies held the power of life.
Ruby is one of the most historically significant colored stones in association with attributes like beauty and wisdom. In the ancient language of Sanskrit, ruby is called ratnaraj, or “king of precious stones.”  People in India believed that rubies enabled their owners to live in peace with their enemies. In Burma (a ruby source since at least 600 AD—now called Myanmar), warriors possessed rubies to make them invincible in battle.
Ruby is a variety of the gems species corundum. It is harder than any natural gemstone except diamond, which means a ruby is durable enough for everyday wear.  Depending on the chromium and iron content, rubies have a color range that includes pinkish, purplish, orangey, and brownish reds. The trace mineral content tends to vary with the location of the geologic formation which produced the ruby. This is why terms like “Burmese” (Myanmar) or “Thai” (Thailand) are sometimes used to describe the color of stones from those locations. (However, color is not always an indication of origin).
Fine-quality ruby is extremely rare, and the color of the gem is most important to its value. The most prized color is a medium or medium dark vivid red or slightly purplish red.
Ruby retained its importance with the birth of the western world and became one of the most sought-after gems of European royalty and the upper classes. Many medieval Europeans wore rubies to guarantee health, wealth, wisdom, and success in love.
Desire for ruby is just as great today as it always has been. As a symbol of passion, ruby makes an ideal romantic gift. Consumers are drawn to the lush color because it also signifies wealth and success.
Ruby is the most valuable variety of the corundum mineral species, which also includes sapphire. Rubies can command the highest per-carat price of any colored stone. This makes ruby one of the most important gems in the colored stone market.
