When is the Best Time of the Year to Buy a Diamond Ring? Industry Insiders Reveal Answers That May Shock You…

NYCWD was interviewed for the latest featured article on the website  A fascinating article that gathers information from some of the industries biggest players and asked them “When is the Best Time of the Year to Buy a Diamond Ring?”

Ever since was launched, the site had helped thousands of people around the world find their perfect engagement ring. Interestingly, some of the questions I get asked repeatedly are “When is the best time of the year to buy a diamond ring?” and “Are there any diamond sales that take place during certain times of the year?”

Speaking from my own shopping experience, I can definitely empathize with readers asking questions like these. After all, a diamond ring purchase usually embodies an emotional attachment as well as a significant financial commitment.

I mean, who wouldn’t want to save money on a big-ticket item when possible?
If you had been shopping around, I’m sure you would notice a spike in jewelry ads screaming “50% off your diamond ring!” during the festive season. You probably also notice sprawling banners in jewelry stores offering “huge discounts” during certain times of the year.

Could it be true that there are certain months or certain days of the year that would be ideal for purchasing a diamond ring? Are there certain periods of the year where you can get a better deal for engagement rings?

Well, that’s exactly what we set out to discover…

Where Better to Get Answers Than to Ask Professionals in the Industry?

I figured it would make the most sense to get answers directly from people working in the jewelry industry.

After all, you would expect to get the most accurate answers straight from the source and directly via professionals who understand the business.

Over the last 3 months, I reached out to jewelers, appraisers, gemological associations and businesses on a global scale. I asked each of them the same question: “When is the best time of the year to buy a diamond engagement ring and why?”

And guess what? Some of their replies might actually come as a surprise to you.

Keith Saxe, President and Founder, NYC Wholesale Diamonds

“There are many wonderful times of the year to best buy a diamond at the most significantly discounted pricing.
To best succeed in this quest, it is most wise to first avoid buying at ‘wrong time of year’.

Avoid making your purchase at these two time frames:
1. Avoid early February. Most retailers represent markdowns for Valentine’s Day but actually are selling at higher pricing.
2. Avoid Thanksgiving to Xmas. Most retailers represent markdowns for the holidays but actually are selling at their highest pricing.

Best Times:
The best time for lowest pricing is after these two periods, especially in January after the holidays. Retailers are burdened with inventory, and have bills to pay. Perfect combination for the buyer.”

I bought a diamond engagement ring from Keith. I had a bit of anxiety at the start of the process, because I don’t know anything about the diamond market and diamonds are considerable investments. But Keith does a good job at guiding first time buyers through the purchase process. He only sells GIA certified diamonds and is able to explain well to novices the differences between various options. I let him know what my budget was and he showed me a variety of stones in my price range. Then, he helped me narrow down on the ring design for the stone. The ring was made on the schedule, and the recipient of the ring was completely happy with it.

Keith is absolutely the best and there is no question I would sent anyone his way, large budget or small. He is honest, helps you relax if the process is a bit of a stress on your shoulders, and truly cares about you being happy with the end results. Keith, we can’t thank you enough for your help with the engagement and wedding rings! They are phenomenal and you are wonderful.

The 21st of June is just a week away, and with temperatures soaring, summer is close enough to touch! Here at NYC Wholesale Diamonds our president Keith Saxe has been helping clients deal with issues that arise from not being prepared to care for their treasured jewelry for over a quarter century. Here is some extremely useful information that will help prevent any issues before they occur.

Weekend getaways, jaunts to the beach, and full-fledged vacations are perks that pretty much come with the territory during the summer months, so it’s no wonder that summer fashion tips such as what to wear, what to pack, what to buy—are at the forefront of our minds right now.

One thing, though, that’s not quite as readily on our radar is the idea of jewelry, and how the summer months might affect our pieces. Namely, how we can protect our beloved rings, jewelry, necklaces, and earrings from the season’s elements, and how we can keep them secure while jetting off somewhere sun-filled.

Our jewelry can take a serious bruising when exposed to summer activities such as lounging in the sand, applying suntan lotion, and traveling. Whether your summer plans include a weekend trip or a week abroad. Here are some helpful hints to keep in mind while you enjoy the beauty of summer:

1. Sunbathe without your Gems
Sunscreen can coat gemstones, which reduces refractive and reflective light. Essentially, this means your stones won’t be as brilliant or bling-y. To avoid this, leave your fine pieces at home if you’re heading to the beach or the pool for the day, and be sure clean them regularly all summer. Check NYC Diamond Blog’s post for tips on regular Diamond Jewelry maintenance.

 2. Organization is key when traveling.
When jumbled together, your jewelry doesn’t always get along. For example, a diamond can scratch a pearl, and a bracelet can get caught on a necklace, so always pack pieces in individual soft cloth pouches or lined jewelry boxes to prevent scratching, dulling, and the dreaded tangling of chains.

3. Keep it safe.
When selecting a hotel, be sure that safe deposit boxes are available. Never leave fine jewelry unattended in a hotel room, a rental car, or on a lounge chair—even if you’re just popping over to the bar for a mojito.

4. Shopping for something new? Do your research.
Oftentimes, vacation destinations are also prime shopping destinations, so if you get the urge to commemorate your trip with a new fine jewelry purchase make sure you’re buying from a jeweler that’s been in business for several years. When in doubt, check a retailer’s reputation and rating with the Better Business Bureau and ask for an appraisal. The appraisal should always have the store’s letterhead, and a clear signature of a member of store management.

5. Before you go away, be sure your jewelry is adequately insured.
If you decide to bring an especially valuable piece on vacation—perhaps your engagement ring, a pricey watch, or a family heirloom—always be sure it is fully insured. Always obtain insurance through your homeowners or renters policy, it is safe and more affordable than you would imagine.

NYCWD is so grateful for another 5 Star Review.

Thank you Michael B., for our latest review on Google!

%Jeweler NYC %NYC Wholesale Diamonds“In my experience, Keith doesn’t just sell people diamonds–he becomes a partner in helping you find exactly what you’re looking for. I’ve now gone to him on multiple occasions, including when I was looking for an engagement ring, a wedding ring and a push gift (the natural progression of jewelry-buying life). Each time, Keith showed me multiple options without being “salesman-y” or upselling me into something I didn’t want. In fact, he couldn’t have been further from those things–he truly wanted to find me the perfect piece. I wasn’t all that knowledgeable coming in, especially when it came to choosing an engagement ring, and expected to feel completely intimidated. That wasn’t the case at all upon meeting Keith–he was patient, instructive and personable. And when I needed a push gift quickly because our baby was born early, Keith was able to get it within a day. I can’t recommend his services enough and I know I will be going to see him for years to come.”
